Sablon:Mainpage is maintained in the wiki-tools repository on GitHub.

This template is synced from the Git repository. Any on-wiki changes should also be made in GitHub, otherwise they may be overwritten on the next deployment.

Sablon:Mainpage invokes function main in Modul:Mainpage using Lua.

Renders the main page. One line, no parameters:

This is a thin wrapper around Module:Mainpage, which emits the whole page — hero, highlights, featured article, on this day, the editing invitation, the community cards, the directory, and a foot row linking the page an editor changes. It also emits its own TemplateStyles and the category that loads the main page gadget, so a page carrying this transclusion needs nothing else.

Changing what the page shows

Not here, and not in any module. Everything an editor changes — the featured article, the running event, the build chips, the hero, and both link lists — is in one file:

• Module:Mainpage/settings.json

It is linked at the foot of the rendered page, and it carries its own guidance in a _readme at the top. Module:Mainpage/doc is the full reference.

MediaWiki refuses to save invalid JSON, so a mistake there is caught before it can reach the page — and a value the page cannot make sense of costs only the thing it feeds, never the page itself.
