GDC Online 2012

Star Citizen was first announced by Chris Roberts at GDC Online 2012 on 10 October 2012.

it was followed by the crowdfunding campaign and the game's website crashed intermitently due to the resulting spike in traffic.^[1]

The website was launched thirty days prior to the announcement as a "teaser site".^[1]

In the week leading up to GDC Online, Chris Roberts went on a national and international press tour, which had to be expanded due to the high interest by the press.^[1]
