The Picoball was created first in real life by Jared Huckaby for the Inside Star Citizen 2020 halloween special[1] and then modeled by John Carney during a Star Citizen Live broadcast[2] as a reference to New Babbage's mascot Pico the Penguin. The Picoball has since been added to Star Citizen.
According to Jared Huckaby, 9 Picoballs have been hidden within the game,[3] the first of which was found lying on a bunk in Calhoun Pass Emergency Shelter on January 7th, 2022.[4]
