Vehicle name and serial on a 600i

Vehicle naming allows vehicles to display a player-assigned name and the unique serial number they were assigned at purchase on their hulls. The names are unique per hull. The naming itself is done via the Hangar on the website.[1] In Alpha 3.13, only the Hammerhead, Reclaimer, Mercury Star Runner, 600i, 890 Jump, and Carrack are able to be named. Vehicles purchased in game with aUEC are not eligible, and future straight to flight ready vehicles will come packaged with the ability to name them.[2]

Renaming

Names can be changed at any time, but the vehicle can only hold one name at a time. The name will stay on the vehicle even if the player trade it away, but it will be lost if the vehicle is upgraded or reclaimed. Once the player change the name, the old name is released and available for other players.[1]

Restrictions

  • A vehicle's name is unique to that particular model of vehicle.
    • Example: A 600i and an 890 Jump can both be named the "Belligerent Duck", but two different players cannot both name their 600i the "Belligerent Duck".
  • Names are on a "First Come, First Served" basis.
  • There is a limit of 32 characters for a given vehicle name that must consist of letters, numbers, spaces, and dashes in any combination.
  • Spaces and dashes, while allowed, cannot be consecutively repeated in the vehicle's name and cannot be on the outside of the name.
    • Example: A vehicle named "Proud-Mary" is fine but "Proud--Mary" and "-Proud-Mary-" are not.
  • The vehicle name must respect the RSI Code of Conduct and Terms of Service.
    • Repeated violations of the code of conduct may include removal of the ability to name vehicles or the suspension of a player's RSI account.
  • Vehicles purchased in-game cannot be named at this time.[2]

Development

Vehicle naming will be introduced in Alpha 3.13 for the Hammerhead, Reclaimer, Mercury Star Runner, 600i, and 890 Jump.[1] The Carrack is added to the 3.13 rollout a day after the initial announcement.[3] Vehicles purchased in-game with aUEC are not eligible for naming as the functionality has not yet been implemented. Specifically, this is because at this stage of development, ships earned in-game are not permanent and are subject to wipe.[2]

Annotations

  1. 600i Warbond Concept pledges have had name reservation available from the outset.  Players with one of these pledges have already reserved their names and need take no further actions.  As noted above, the pledge must be in your hangar, and not your buy back queue, if you wish to take advantage of this special 600i Warbond perk.  Non-Warbond 600i Concept pledges will be in Wave 1.
